High School Roundup: Wheeling Central Continues Win Streak
CADIZ — The Wheeling Central Maroon Knights baseball team picked up another win Saturday, going to the Maz Classic in Cadiz and defeating the Carrollton Warriors 9-5 to push their win streak to 15.
Central built a 5-0 lead after three innings, scoring in each frame, before Carrollton got on the board with a two-spot in the bottom of the fourth. Four more Maroon Knight runs in the top of the fifth inning put plenty of distance between the two teams though.
Steven Brodegard earned the win on the mound, starting the game and pitching five innings, striking out three. Matt Criniti pitched two scoreless innings to secure the victory. He struck out two.
Central’s Koy Lipinski picked up the three toughest legs of a cycle, going 3-3 with a double, a triple and a home run. He also drew a walk, finishing with three RBI to lead the Maroon offense.
Clay Petry and Jake Brown each hit a double and a triple for their own multi-hit days, while Olen Ames doubled and singled. Criniti hit a two-run single.

WHEELING — The Patriots from Wheeling Park dropped a couple in their doubleheader Saturday vs. the Patriots from Washington.
Jaxson Updegraff was a bright spot for Park in the first game, hitting two doubles and driving in a pair of runs. Myles Gorby also had a multi-hit day with two singles.
In the second game, Ossie Hudson homered, driving in two runs, while Updegraff, Braydon Bartsch, Nolan Yanchak and Brody Groome each hit two singles. Wheeling Park and Washington were tied 3-3 after the first inning, and Washington had a 6-4 lead after three innings. The visitors would score again in the fourth inning and the sixth inning.

NEW CUMBERLAND — The home Golden Bears shut out the Seminoles on Saturday.
Mattie Carney picked up the win inside the circle, pitching six innings of one-hit ball and striking out 13. She also doubled in the game. Brayley Lash doubled, singled and homered to lead Oak Glen’s offense.
