Fixing Flow of Traffic In Downtown Wheeling

For those who commute each morning to downtown Wheeling for work, there’s nothing worse that sitting at a red light, when the opposing lanes are all closed or one way headed in the opposite direction, and waiting. Yet that seems to be the course of action state highways officials have chosen with the Streetscape project.

Take the intersection of 14th and Market streets, for example. Cars heading east or west on 14th Street sit for nearly a minute at each red light. No traffic is using Market Street; it’s closed between 14th and 16th streets. Yet, instead of making the lights a flashing red to help keep traffic flowing, as has been done elsewhere, the state refuses to make a change.

This needs addressed.
