WEIRTON - With the general election just over one month away, election officials are offering voters a reminder of some important dates leading up to them being able to cast their votes.
Residents still wishing to register to vote, or change their party affiliation, have until Oct. 13 to do so.
Registrations may be done through each County Clerk’s office, as well as online through the West Virginia Secretary of State’s Office at govotewv.com.
Registration for members of the U.S. military or certain overseas citizens can be accepted up until Nov. 2.
The election’s early voting period will run from Oct. 21 to Oct. 31, with those interested in taking part able to cast their vote by visiting the County Clerk’s Office in their respective county courthouse during regular business hours, as well as from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays during that time.
West Virginia also offers an option for absentee voting, with the deadline to for voters to apply for an absentee ballot by mail set at Oct. 28. To receive an absentee ballot application, voters must call their County Clerk’s Office.
Requests for emergency absentee ballots may be filed from Oct. 27 to noon, Nov. 3. Voters may be eligible for emergency absentee ballots if they will be in the hospital on Election Day, are a replacement poll worker appointed after the period for early voting; are in a licensed health care facility within an adjacent county or within 35 miles of the county seat; in a nursing home within the county for a period of less than 30 days before the election; or if the voter has become confined because of illness, injury, physical disability or immobility because of advanced age or other medical reason.
Polls on Election Day will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.
