Third COVID-19 Vaccine Dose Available to the Immunocompromised in Marshall County

This undated electron microscope image made available by the U.S. National Institutes of Health in February 2020 shows the Novel Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. Also known as 2019-nCoV, the virus causes COVID-19. The sample was isolated from a patient in the U.S. (NIAID-RML via AP)

The Marshall County Health Department will be hosting a drive-thru vaccination event for those individuals diagnosed as immunocompromised by their treating physician.

This clinic will be held on August 25, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Marshall County Fairgrounds. This clinic is being held in a drive-through format so those with immunocompromising conditions do not have to enter another building, potentially exposing them to one of the strains of this virus.

Identification and proof of vaccine is required. Without the vaccine card, or a copy of it, people will not be able to receive the vaccine. Lost cards must be replaced ahead of time. There are no appointments, and vaccines will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis. Age restrictions remain the same, with the Pfizer vaccine for those 12 and up, Moderna for 18 and up.

The list of eligible people includes:

– Active treatment for solid tumor and hematologic malignancies.

– Receipt of solid-organ transplant and taking immunosuppressive therapy.

– Receipt of CAR-T-cell or hematopoietic stem cell transplant (within 2 years of transplantation or taking immunosuppression therapy).

– Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (e.g., DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome).

– Advanced or untreated HIV infection.

– Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids (i.e., ≥20mg prednisone or equivalent per day), alkylating agents, antimetabolites, transplant-related immunosuppressive drugs, cancer chemotherapeutic agents classified as severely immunosuppressive, tumor-necrosis (TNF) blockers, and other biologic agents that are immunosuppressive or immunomodulator.
