Wheeling Nailers To Host Second-Annual Sensory Day Game on Sunday

WHEELING — The Wheeling Nailers are hosting their second-annual Sensory Day Game on Sunday at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, where they will face off against the Greensboro Gargoyles.

This unique game experience is designed to celebrate people of all ages who might be sensitive to the loud noises, pyrotechnics and flashing lights of a typical professional hockey game.

The Wheeling Nailers partnered with Easterseals Rehabilitation Center and Augusta Levy Behavioral Services to ensure the game is an enjoyable experience for fans who might not otherwise feel comfortable attending a game.

One of Easterseals’ speech therapy clients, 5-year-old Silas, will drop the ceremonial puck for the game.

Accommodations include: no goal horn, no flashing lights, no dark lighting, no pre-game pyrotechnics and no loud music. In addition, fans are encouraged to cheer by waving their arms rather than yelling and clapping.

Augusta Levy will provide a quiet sensory room on the arena’s west side, and informational tables will be set up in the main concourse by Easterseals, Augusta Levy, and others who serve children and adults with autism and other disabilities and developmental delays.

Starting at $2.99/week.
