Peterson Rehabilitation Hospital in Wheeling To Be Under New Ownership

WHEELING — Peterson Healthcare and Rehabilitation Hospital will soon be under new ownership. Guardian Healthcare Management Services, the Wheeling hospital’s current owner, confirmed through a statement Tuesday that Peterson is in the process of being sold.

The name of the new owner was not released.

In that statement, Guardian said it expected no disruption in patient care.

Guardian said that, at the start of 2024, the company notified employees and customers it had decided to transfer operations of its skilled nursing centers to new operators.

“While the transition date has not been finalized, Guardian Healthcare and the new operator are working closely with each other and the state licensing authorities to ensure we take all the necessary and appropriate steps to transfer operations, which includes filing for a change of ownership as well as notifying residents and families of the change,” the statement read.

“We are all working hard to make this transition as seamless as possible for our residents and families and providing them with quality care will remain our top priority throughout the transition.

“The decision was not made lightly,” the statement continued. “Guardian Healthcare appreciates the loyalty and hard work of its employees.”

According to its website, Peterson, which sits in the Woodsdale neighborhood of Wheeling, has been providing nursing and rehabilitative care for more than 60 years.

The hospital provides both long and short term care, as well as specialties including physical and occupational therapy, lymphedema therapy, orthopedic therapy, wound care and speech pathology. It has 177 beds, according to its website.

Starting at $2.99/week.
