J. KEVIN O’SHEA
Joseph Kevin O’Shea was born 28 April 1939 and died 23 February 2021. He was a second generation Irishman whose father, Joseph O’Shea, hailed from County Kerry, Ireland.
Kevin was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, and he proudly maintained dual citizenship in Ireland. He attended SUNY Binghamton, and his career working for Hill’s Department Store, where he was District Manager, led him to the Wheeling area, which is where he called home for almost 50 years. Upon leaving that role, he remained self employed managing Heakel Corporation until his retirement.
Kevin enjoyed reading anything and all military history, researching his Irish heritage, and reminiscing about his early days with family in NY; however, his pride and joy was always his family.
He leaves behind his wife of almost 50 years, Candace Kapolka O’Shea; his two daughters Heather Wayt (Dr. Michael Wayt) of Wheeling and Kelly Lehman (Major Zachary Lehman, USMC) currently stationed in Wilmington, NC. His five granddaughters, Kenadee, Ireland, Kaitlyn, Brooklynn, and Ellen (his “little one”) each hold a special place in his heart. Being Papa to these girls was his greatest accomplishment and nothing made him happier than time spent with them. Kevin also leaves behind his only sister, Maureen O’Shea Lundy, a retired federal court judge who resides in West Hartford, CT.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph O’Shea and Mary McCarthy O’Shea.
Kevin was a man, who like the Johnny Cash song says, “had gravel in his guts and spit in his eye”. He said what he thought, stood up for what he believed, and was known for not backing down. He was hard working and loyal to those he loved. He is deeply and profoundly missed by all who love him.
Services were held privately by the family with arrangements by Kepner Funeral Homes, 166 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV (304- 242-2311).
