Do Your Part This Season
In the coming days, many of us will gather to celebrate — probably with a large meal, presents exchanged, and lots of hugs. As we have seen over the past couple of Christmas seasons, that is a recipe for the spread of two deadly viruses — not just COVID-19, but influenza as well.
Health experts are so concerned about the severity of this flu season that on Wednesday, the Biden administration announced it is releasing doses of prescription flu medicine from the Strategic National Stockpile to states where patients with the flu are filling hospitals and doctors’ offices.
Pharmacies and grocery stores are already having a tough time keeping up.
A little more Tamiflu on hand is one thing. But families are still dealing with not only COVID-19, but respiratory syncytial virus. It’s a lot to be dealing with, as our vigilance against the spread of germs seems to have waned.
Resolve to step up that vigilance once again, as holiday visits ramp up. If you have not already done so, please get vaccinated or boosted against COVID-19. Get your flu shot. Stay home and get tested if you feel ill. Wash or sanitize your hands often. Think of those you love so much that you are looking forward to seeing them in the coming days — and then think about whether you are loving them most by keeping your distance to keep them safe.
This is the most wonderful time of year, folks. Do your part for your own health, and those around you, to keep it that way.
