Planning for the Parade
It’s hard to believe it’s time again to start thinking about the annual Main Street Bank Fantasy in Lights Parade. The event is set for Nov. 17 — just two months away. And with the Downtown Streetscape Project in full swing, Wheeling Area Chamber of Commerce officials are planning the route.
“I think we’ll have the same route as last (year) as long as the Market Street Bridge in Center Wheeling — which is closed now — is open,” chamber marketing and communications director Laurie Conway said.
Let’s hope she’s right — as it stands now, Market Street is a mess. The parade route, as planned, would proceed down Market to 12th Street, then turn left at the intersection with the McLure Hotel and then left onto Main Street until its completion. But that area of Main Street only has one lane open until the sidewalks are completed.
There’s much to do, but let’s hope the streets are open for the parade.
