Editor, News-Register: To my friends on the Board of Education: As you may know, Wheeling is one of the few cities of its size in the country that does not have a Carnegie Library. The citizens of Wheeling declined the offer of a Carnegie Library. The thinking of that time was, “We don’t need no dang library. Restore Library’s Full Funding

Editor, News-Register: The editorial in the Sunday (May 2) News Register titled “Don’t Defund the Public Library” is spot on. The Board Members that voted in favor of this move are absolutely wrong. The amount (approximately $300,000) that will be reduced from the Library funding is “chump change” (definition — “a small or insignificant amount of money”) in regards to the millions of dollars that the Ohio County school board is spending on building and recreational facilities. Editor, News-Register The recent decision by the Ohio County Board of Education to drastically cut funding for the Ohio County Public Library is short-sighted and ill-advised. If these cuts are allowed to happen the negative impact on the community will be felt for years to come.
