Wheeling Man Faces Charges in Break-In, Beating

A Wheeling man faces felony charges after allegedly attacking a man in his ex-girlfriend’s apartment.

Maurice Walker, Sr., 53, of Wheeling, was arrested on charges of burglary and malicious assault. Both are felonies. Walker posted bond while awaiting his preliminary hearing before magistrate Janine Varner.

Around 10:15 p.m. on Nov. 14, Wheeling police officers responded to a call of a domestic disturbance at an Eoff Street residence. At the apartment, police met with a man whose face had been heavily wounded, with both eyes nearly swollen shut and “extremely bruised,” according to police. The man was bleeding from the nose and suffered a cut under his eye.

The woman who owned the apartment allegedly said that Walker broke into her apartment, came inside, and attacked the man she was with. The woman told police that Walker allegedly made his way into the bedroom, pulled the man out of bed, and began punching him repeatedly in the face, yelling “That’s my girl!”

The woman said she jumped on Walker and attempted to stop him, and that another, unknown man accompanied Walker inside the apartment. Walker was said to have stopped his attack and fled with the other man.

The battered man initially refused medical treatment, but was persuaded to be treated at Wheeling Hospital. At the scene, police say they found blood on the floor and walls of the apartment near the bed, and that the glass pane to the back door was shattered and scattered on the floor.
