People Have Spoken

Editor, News-Register: The American people have spoken clearly. We’ll have a better president in January. The electoral college victory is clear, and the popular vote margin is in the millions. I have no great love for Joe Biden. He is a normal politician with the normal issues. We will not cure COVID or cancer overnight, nor end war for all eternity. I hope he gets many moderate and sensible things done. I am glad we will have a president who supports democracy, who isn’t drunk on conspiracy. Let us hope we can relearn to debate on issues and substance, and let’s all ...

Safeguarding Others

Editor, News-Register: I just read the front page morning news regarding the overworked staff at the Marshall County Health Department. It brought tears of both sadness and anger at the echoing complaint by these “saints” who are trying to take care of us. I speak for them when I say, please, just follow the guidelines and wear a mask, sanitize your hands, keep at a distance, avoid indoor groups, etc. Contrary to what some believe, it is not our constitutional right to do otherwise. Common sense shows us that it’s because we didn’t do this prior to now that we’re in ...

Who Will Prevail?

Editor, News-Register: The conflict rages over what will be the very nature of the election process whereby leadership — executive, legislative, and judicial — is determined in this Republic under God. Or is it to be a secular democracy that was utterly rejected by the founders of this nation? Who will prevail? Will it be the inspiration of the French Revolution that exercised the violence that steals, kills, and destroys resulting in widespread misery unto death or the American Revolution that honors God’s sovereignty securing the individual’s inalienable rights of ...

Say No to Project

Editor, News-Register: Regarding the Washington Avenue Medical Complex proposal: This project manifests abuse of ZONING POWER. It follows in Bransfield’s footsteps, who initiated destroying a valuable part of our community — the Washington Avenue neighborhood. He demolished historic Washington Avenue homes and habitats. Decisions of non-elected unobjective officials on the Planning and Zoning Commissions need to stop! The public deserves the right to VOTE for members of these municipal committees! A neighbor was on the zoning board and was abruptly let go from ...

‘Pay to Play’ at Work?

Editor, News-Register: As reported recently in “The New York Times,” President Donald J. Trump, who unlike all those who have preceded him in the White House, has an unquestioned conflict of interest and has unapologetically, absolutely, refused to divest himself of his vast business holdings. He has placed his eldest children in charge of the day-to-day oversight of his business ventures, while in service to the public as chief executive of our great nation. It has been revealed that during his first two years in office alone, over 200 entities, both foreign and domestic, have ...

Harming Children as Policy

According to the American Civil Liberties Union 545 is how many children that have been separated from their families by U.S. border officials in 2017 and 2018 and that still haven’t made contact with their parents. Separating — ripping from their parents arms — a child (many under five) from their family are crimes of kidnapping and child abuse. Then in maintaining the children in cages is worse then a crime, it is evil. According to the Washington Post, “months before the Trump administration rolled out its “zero-tolerance” policy on the U.S.-Mexico border, hundreds ...
