Out of this commitment the City of Wheeling Human Rights Commission was established with a purpose of collaborative work towards inclusivity and equity. Nationally we have seen repeated instances of racial inequity ...

Election Reform Is Vital

Editor, News-Register: The policies and procedures of the entire election process need to be standardized and accompanying change accomplished in all states, even if it requires a constitutional amendment. Politicians, political parties and individual states, collectively, obviously cannot be trusted with the honest conduct of election affairs. Honesty and transparency must be given a top priority, and fraud and deceit in the election process must become a federal offense in all states. This election has been sickening. Election reform should become domestic priority No. 1. ...

Wrong About Guns

Editor, News-Register: Here we go again: Another election and the Democrats are going to take your guns. At a recent Trump rally, Trump said, “If Joe Biden is elected, he will take your guns and your Second Amendment rights.” If Biden is elected, he can’t do either one! So, once again, Trump has lied to us. Or perhaps he really doesn’t know any better, for he definitely isn’t a scholar of our Constitution. This is a tactic used to get you to focus on guns rather than the bread and butter issues that affect you and your family’s daily lives. I’m 80 years old and ...

May the Best Man Win

Editor, News-Register: On Nov. 3, the most important election in the history of our country will take place and we, the people of the United States of America, as citizens, will cast our votes for either four more years of Mr. Trump — love him or hate him for his tweets — or look at the fact that through his party, he has tried to walk the talk. The Senate and House are pretty well buried in the swamp, and for the most ...

In the gubernatorial election Nov. 3, you have a choice. If you are satisfied with the present failed state policy for COVID-19 that has resulted in business closings, high unemployment, children and adolescents denied the benefits of in-person education, and the restriction of our freedoms while there continue to be 150 or more new COVID-19 cases daily, vote for Justice. If you would like a governor with extensive U.S. Army emergency operations planning experience whose focus would be to protect those who are vulnerable to COVID-19 while letting the rest of us get on with our ...

Re-Elect Ryan Weld

Editor, News-Register: Over the past 10 years, I’ve watched as the opioid crisis in West Virginia has invaded every community and touched nearly every family in this state. As a retired pharmacist, I’ve paid particular attention as to just how our legislature has tried to address what I believe to be the most significant issue our state faces. Because of my background and from what I’ve seen over the past four years, I support State Senator Ryan Weld as he seeks a second term as our senator. Ryan served as a prosecuting attorney in Brooke County for several years, and took ...
