Shadyside Looks To Hit The Floor Running In 2022-23
SHADYSIDE – With six returners who logged good minutes a season ago, a pair of senior building blocks to work around, Coach Serge Gentile’s Shadyside team is looking to hit the floor running in 2022. The Lady Tigers will be led by senior do-it-all Gentry Brown (5-9, forward), who is coming off a junior campaign that saw her earn first team All-District, second-team All-OVAC and honorable mention All-Ohio awards. She will be joined by classmate Rylie Fulton (5-7, guard), who was a second-team All-District honoree. The third member of this group is junior Macy Hendershot (5-10, ...
Bridgeport Looks To Turn Program Around In 2022-23
BRIDGEPORT – The last few seasons have not been good to the Bridgeport girls basketball program, but head coach Brittany Hicks is more than excited with what she has seen from her squad coming into the 2022-23 seasons. The Bulldogs return four letterwinners from last winter. Two of them – seniors Kaylee Bain (5-6) and Alexis Clemens (5-8) – are seeking their fourth letters. Junior Brooke Stewart (5-6) has lettered two times while sophomore Rowyn Herman (5-5) earned a letter as a freshman. Seniors Ashlynn Allen (5-10) and Daijah Smith (5-7), along with sophomores Jasmine ...
Harrison Central Has New Head Coach For 2022-23 Campaign
CADIZ — The Harrison Central girls team too is breaking in a new coach, though he should be a familiar face to Huskies faithful, especially anywhere near the hardwood. A star guard for the Huskies as a student, Smith spent the last few seasons assistant longtime girls goal Nick Yourkovich, and prior to that, served as head coach of the OU Eastern women’s team. One positive—four actually—for Smith is he’s not only familiar with his current crop of Huskies, but four of the team’s starters from last season return. Senior Maddy Butler (5-2), Emma Fischer (5-5), Mackenzie ...
Buckeye Local Begins Second Season Under Valuska
CONNORVILLE — Year two begins under head coach Tom Valuska in Connorville with a little optimism. The Panthers are coming off their best season (9-14) since a 10-win campaign back in 2018. The team also returns two starters, technically three if not for injury issues a season ago. But size will definitely be an issue, both in stature of the girls that take the floor, and in terms of the number of girls that are even attempting to take the floor. “We’ve got a decent little group, but it’s a small group, just 13 girls,” Valuska said. “We’re not going to have any ...
